2/8/10 - RUNNING SEAT CHANGE ON CERTAIN TOURING MODELS. Harley-Davidson has announced a running seat change on certain 2010 Touring model motorcycles. All FLHTK (Limited), FLHTCU (Ultra), FLHTC (Classic), and FLHTCUTG (Tri-glide) models produced after January 18th received a seat change. The new seat is lower and allows for better driver foot contact to the ground when stopped.
1/18/10 - DOES YOUR TWIN CAM HAVE 30,000+ MILES ON IT? Typically, we have begun to see issues with cam chain tensioner wear on twin cam engines with this many miles on them. The tensioners are not constructed to last forever. These spring loaded tensioners have constant pressure on them and wear like a brake shoe. When they surpass the wear limit noise can typically be heard in the cam compartment with the motor running. When extremely worn the shoes can break off setting debris free inside the motor. Once worn through or broken the metal aspect of the tensioner begins to run on the chain and can cause damage to other parts. So if you are experiencing noise it would be a good idea to have it checked out. If replacement is needed, you can choose to have new stock OEM tensioners installed or upgrade to a hydraulic set that Harley-Davidson now uses in production.
10/19/09 - HARLEY-DAVIDSON DISCONTINUES BUELL® LINE. We have not been a Buell dealer for a few years now, but in case you have not heard. Harley-Davidson is shutting down the production of Buell® American Motorcycles in an effort to focus all of their attention on the main Harley-Davidson™ brand. In case you were unaware, Harley-Davidson also owns MV Agusta©. The are looking to sell off MV Agusta as part of this new Harley-Davidson focused strategy.
4/28/09 - DON’T BE STRANDED! REPLACE SECURITY FOB BATTERIES. The “Motor Company” recommends that bike security key FOB batteries be replaced every two years. If you are out somewhere and your battery dies chances are you won’t be leaving very soon. The only other way to disarm the system is to do it manually following the guidelines in your owner’s manual. So, if your bike is more than two years old and the batteries in your FOBs have never been replaced this is good time to be doing that.
4/20/09 - STAY OUT OF THE SALT! Spring weather is already being sent our way in western New York. We just wanted to remind you about the damage salt can do to the appearance of your motorcycle. If you want to advance the corrosion of the aluminum and chrome on your bike, go for a cruise on salt dusted roads. However, If you want to keep your bike clean resist that urge to ride on salty roads. Salt and your motorcycle don’t mix! Going for one little joyride on salt glazed roads can stain aluminum as well as rust chrome and rust bolts, so carefully consider the results. Patiently wait for that 3rd or 4th downpour of rain to wash the roads clean. It will be well worth saving yourself the headaches that a bike exposed to salt can bring.
10/30/08 - YOU MIGHT NEED A NEW BATTERY!! Bike Batteries are expensive, so don’t put yourself in the position of having to shell out the cash for a brand new one in the spring because you neglected your present one all winter. The best thing you can do is get your battery hooked up to a battery tender all winter long. The tender stays plugged into your wall outlet for the duration of the winter and automatically maintains the battery charge so you won’t have to think about it until spring. If this sounds like a wise idea to you, the next time you are in our shop ask about the Super Smart Harley-Davidson Battery Tenders we have available. These Tenders are made specifically for Harley-Davidson batteries. Also, make sure your battery is protected from freezing temperatures.
